Police investigating the death of a man outside his home in Leytonstone have released an image of a man they would like to speak to.

Evaldas Simanaitis was found seriously injured in Matcham Road in the early hours of October 16.

The 68-year-old died in hospital from his head injuries ten days later.

CCTV footage shows that he sustained his injuries outside his home at around 4am.

Police have linked his death to a series of suspected car break-ins in Plaistow on the morning he was found.

Officers were called to reports that two men were believed to be breaking into cars in Boundary Lane.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene. Car keys registered to an address in Matcham Road were found in his possession.

Police have now released an image of a man - believed to be 24-year-old Tomas Asmenkas – who is thought to have been in the area around Boundary Road at the time.

Detective Inspector Aytac Necati said: “I would urge you to look closely at the image we have released today. We need to speak with this man as a matter of urgency about the events that night.

“Mr Simanaitis’s family are facing Christmas without him. Please put yourselves in their place. Someone knows where this man is; please do the right thing and contact us.

“If anyone saw or heard anything on Boundary Lane or Matcham Road in the early hours of 16 October, but has not yet spoken with police, I ask them to please come forward.”
