The family of a four-year-old boy who was stabbed to death said he was taken “far too soon”.

Kobi Macharia Dooly, 4, died after he was found with knife injuries at a property in Montague Road, Hackney, on Wednesday (December 20) at 10.50pm.

Police were called to an address following concerns for the welfare of a child.

Kobi was found injured and rushed to hospital for treatment, but later died.

His mother Keziah Macharia, 41, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court today charged with murder and was remanded in custody. She is due to appear at the Old Bailey next Thursday (December 28).

Irish news channels have since revealed that Kobi’s father, Ben Dooly, was originally from Tranmore in Waterford.

The Dooly family are reportedly “highly respected” in the area and have “very strong” connections, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

It has been reported that the dad was working outside London when his son was killed.

His Waterford-based family have shared a statement, published in the Irish press, which reads: "With heavy hearts we bid farewell to Kobi, you will be so dearly missed.

"The joy and laughter you brought to the world has been taken from us far too soon. We will be thinking of you day and night for eternity till we meet you again.

"The family would like to acknowledge and appreciate all messages of support. Please respect our family privacy at this very difficult time."

It’s claimed that the father was planning a trip back to Ireland to spend time with the extended family for Christmas before the attack. Today some members have made their way to London following the news.

A video sent to the Gazette of the moments after police arrived shows officers running up and down the road, while one neighbour said two police officers were seen "crying and shaking”.

Remembering Kobi, One woman, 36, said: “The child was energetic and often seen out with his scooter”.

Police tape was stretched across part of the street yesterday, blocking access to the house as forensic investigators collected evidence.
