Authorities in Waltham Forest are working to "monitor tensions" in the borough after red crosses were sprayed across Leytonstone.
In a statement on Monday, September 15, Waltham Forest Council leader Grace Williams said residents were left "concerned and unsettled" after the crosses were daubed on both public and private property.
The Labour councillor said: "Waltham Forest is proudly defined not only by its diversity, but by its togetherness too.
"Time and again, we have stood firmly against hate and division of any description.
"Keeping our residents safe remains our first duty, and we continue to support the police to fully investigate these acts.
"We want to thank them for their swift response in Leytonstone, and the council’s neighbourhood team who removed the damage as soon as it was reported."
