Following a busy Christmas season that saw the Epping Ongar Railway run nearly 100 Santa and Lights Party Express trains, our dedicated volunteers are enjoying a well-deserved rest before launching into an extensive event programme for 2026.

The railway will reopen on February 14, with trains running from mid-morning to late afternoon.

Couples can celebrate the romance of Valentine's Day aboard the special evening train, enjoying a two-course 'Fizz and Chips' candlelit dinner, complete with a bottle of prosecco.

Train and bus enthusiasts will have much to look forward to this year.  On February 15, an immaculate collection of rare heritage buses will be running local excursions from North Weald station—a perfect photo opportunity!

The railway will continue steaming during the half-term holiday, offering great value fares for families, and we’re hoping to welcome back our lovingly restored Thumper train in the spring too.

As winter turns to spring, the railway will welcome families over the Easter Bank Holiday with Easter Egg Hunts on and off the trains, magic performances and the chance to meet the Easter Bunny.

We’ve pencilled in the next Steam Gala for mid-April. We are looking forward to build on the success of last September’s ‘Southern Giants’ event.

Details of visiting steam locomotives will be showcased on the railway's website later this month.

At the Epping Ongar Railway, we are conscious of its important role it plays in the local area, and are determined to strengthen links with the community including local schools and youth groups.

From spring, local residents will also benefit from an annual discount scheme, offering reduced admission on certain days and discounts in the shops and cafes.

The railway is also renewing its volunteer recruitment drive, with a special invitation to younger people to get involved, learn new skills, and become part of this rare and special heritage operation in the heart of the Epping-Ongar community.

Full details of the growing 2026 programme and new community initiatives will be available on the Epping Ongar Railway website over the next few weeks at: eorailway.co.uk
