People are being urged to avoid a road in Chingford after a fire at a shop with flats above caused road closures and major disruption.
The London Fire Brigade was called to Hall Lane just after 11.35am today (March 14) to reports of a fire at an end-of-terrace commercial property with flats above, reports our sister site London Now.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were sent to the scene.
Firefighters tackled a blaze which damaged parts of the ground floor and first floor, while the roof and an internal staircase were significantly damaged and partially collapsed.
One woman and one child left the building before crews arrived and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.
Road closures will remain in place for several hours and residents are being advised to avoid the area due to significant traffic disruption.
Crews from Walthamstow, Chingford, Tottenham and surrounding fire stations attended the incident, which was brought under control at 1.49pm.
The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit.
