Walthamstow named as one of the UK's best places to live

Walthamstow was one of six London areas to be given a place on The Sunday Times 2026 Best Places to Live guide.

The guide, published yesterday (March 20), has featured 72 locations across the country after "expert" judges visited each location to assess them across a number of factors.

These included schools and transport, access to high-quality green spaces, high street health, and broadband speed and mobile signal.

According to Helen Davies at The Sunday Times, all 72 areas featured in their guide share one thing in common - pride by those who call the areas home.

London Now reported that Walthamstow made the cut after judges found it has "as much fun per square foot as anywhere in the capital".

The area has seen major cultural investment, including the opening of Soho Theatre Walthamstow last May, bringing with it theatre performances, comedy and music.

The Trades Hall was given a special mention by judges for its wide range of events, from tea dances and cabaret to poetry nights and punk gigs.

Walthamstow's music scene also played a part in it landing a place on the guide.

According to judges however, its "natural beauty" and green space made up for most of its appeal, with wildlife at Walthamstow Wetlands making it a favourite destination.

Lloyd Park was also described as "perfect for a leisurely stroll around a moated island".

Staying true to its east London roots, it was recommended too for its Saturday farmers' market.

Ms Davies said: "This guide is a great opportunity to highlight the best places in Britain.

"It is full of places that show that our village, town and city centres can still be full of life, as well as places bursting with natural beauty, culture, connectivity and most importantly a sense of community.

"Our expert team of judges visit every location on the list and talk to the locals to find out what they love about the place they live."
