Residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke travelling through the neighbourhood.
The London Fire Brigade believes the fire was accidental and was caused by a toaster.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Avoid keeping items such as toasters under cupboards or in contact with combustible materials like tea towels or kitchen roll, as this can lead to a build-up of heat.
“It’s also important to keep toasters clean to help prevent fires.
“Firefighters recommend using our online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.
"The tool asks a series of questions to help assess risk and provides tailored advice to keep you and your loved ones safe from fire.”
One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used as a water tower to help tackle the fire from above.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters from Walthamstow, Woodford, Leyton and nearby stations attended the scene.
The fire was brought under control by 1.41pm.
