In their weekly art lessons, pupils at Oakhill Primary School build on their learning of the famous works of celebrated artists and explore their techniques from sketching to sculpture, from printmaking to painting.

They also visit Galleries as part of our curriculum. Recently Year 2 went to the Estorik Collection of Italian art and took part in a workshop where they became curators, selecting pieces of art to display and considering how the pieces worked together as a collection.

Year 3 took part in a workshop at the William Morris Gallery. They created blocks for printing inspired by the work of William Morris and his use of images and patterns from the natural world.

Each half term, families are invited to the school in Woodford Green to share learning activities and explore areas of the curriculum and in the second half of the Spring term, they celebrated Art.

We met before the start of the school day bright and early at the school gates and went into the local forest.

Families were given examples of artwork created by Andy Goldsworthy who uses natural materials to make outdoor sculptures, often using colour from leaves and circles in his pieces.

Art methods were explored including collage (Image: Oakhill Primary School)

Parents and children worked together to create beautiful works of art which were then left in the forest for others to enjoy.

Back in school, families explored a range of activities including collage, painting and charcoal drawing creating large pieces of art to display in school.
