The victim of a tragic drowning incident during a Duke of Edinburgh trip has been named as an 18-year-old student from a school in Leyton.
Emergency services received reports of a male having entered the water in Powys, Wales, on June 30, and later discovered a body believed to be that of the 18-year-old.
The victim has now been named as Umar Dumbuya, a student at Leyton Sixth Form College in Essex Road.
Umar's college has organised a GoFundMe on behalf of his family to help raise funds towards funeral costs, along with setting up a memorial page where countless people have shared their heart-break at the news.
Leyton Sixth Form College wrote in the GoFundMe: "Umar will be remembered for their kindness, warmth, and the positive impact he had on his family, friends, classmates, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing them.
"Umar’s loss has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who loved them."
The college has confirmed it is "co-operating with the appropriate authorities" as enquiries continue, with youth charity The Duke of Edinburgh's Award confirming it too is "liaising closely with the young person’s college and relevant authorities to understand how this tragic incident happened."
