Road closures are set to cause disruption for drivers this summer.

A series of temporary closures and restrictions will take effect across Hertfordshire in the coming weeks as part of planned utility works, highway maintenance, and infrastructure upgrades.

Hertfordshire County Council has issued traffic regulation orders that will impact towns and villages including Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Hoddesdon, Hertford, Ware, and surrounding rural areas.

Most orders came into force between July 10 and July 30, 2026, and are valid for up to 18 months, although most works are expected to be completed within one day to one week. However, some larger schemes, such as gas main replacements, could take several weeks to finish. In Waltham Cross, several residential streets will be affected.

Bisley Close will be fully closed, while a section of Swanfield Road will be partially shut between Central Avenue and Eastern Avenue. Other full closures in the area include Cecil Road (Crossbrook Street to Burleigh Road), Leyland Close, Maybury Avenue and Pine Close.

Shorter closures will take place in Hoddesdon and other surrounding areas, including River Avenue (with diversion via Rye Road and Stortford Road) and Totts Lane in Walkern.

In Hertford, Davies Street will be shut for utility works, with access maintained. Horn Road will also be closed, with a diversion via Bullocks Lane and the A414.

Trinity Road in Ware will shut, with a diversion through Musley Lane and King George Road. Hertfordshire County Council is advising motorists to follow the diversion routes to minimise inconvenience.
