RESIDENTS have had their say on plans for a new GP-led health centre in Loughton.

People are generally positive about the proposal, according to the results of consultation carried out by West Essex Primary Care Trust.

Consultees said that having access to a doctor between 8am and 8pm seven days a week would be a "real improvement" on services currently provided at the Traps Hill Surgery.

But concerns were raised about a possible reduction in existing local GP practices, and over patients getting to see their first-choice doctor.

A primary care trust spokesman said it is about to start evaluating tenders for the project, and hopes to have a provider in place by the end of the year.

He said: "Many suggestions were received on what services should be included, and the views expressed will help the trust finalise the service specification.

"Comments received about what is important to local people and patients will be taken into account in evaluating and selecting the new provider."

He added: "Services at the Traps Hill Surgery site will continue uninterrupted, with the full service, including extended hours, due to commence by summer 2009."
