ST Clare Hospice is appealing to businesses, professionals and golf enthusiasts are wanted to support the Weston Homes Golf Day which will be raising much-needed money for the charity.

Friday’s event will involve two courses - the Five Lakes Champion Course and the Five Lakes Links Course.

Evening entertainment will be provided by Tom O’Conner.

Hospice chief executive Richard Cowie said: “Each day costs £6,300 to keep St Clare running which totals £2.3m a year and the NHS only provides 30 per cent of this funding. This means we need to generate £4,000 a day to keep providing vital support to the Essex community.

“I’m appealing to all golf enthusiasts to get behind our worthy cause and come down to Five Lakes for a few games.”

Weston Homes chairman and chief executive Bob Weston said: “This is the tenth consecutive year we’ve organised a golf fundraising event for St Clare Hospice. Each year we’ve increased the amount of funding and in 2007 were able to generate £75,000 for the hospice.

“This year we aim to again increase funding and I’m encouraging the community to get behind St Clare. For those who can’t make the golf tournament, we ask you to make a donation, donate a prize for auction or attend the post-tournament dinner being held at the Five Lakes Ballroom from 8pm.”

The golf tournament will be run as a Stable Team competition where teams of four players will compete and the best score of three will count. Numerous prizes for each course will be up for grabs.

Entry fee per team of four is £400 for the Five Lakes Links Course and £450 at Five Lakes Championship Course.

Dinner tickets are available at £40 per person.
