A FUN day at a centre for disabled people helped raise awareness and money for its work.

Loughton Resource Centre, in Torrington Drive, opened to the public for a barbecue, stalls and display of American trucks.

The day also offered the opportunity to showcase artwork created by members at the centre which caters for people with disabilities and special needs.

Ray Harris, chairman of the Friends of Loughton Resource Centre, said: “It was brilliant, and we had a good turnout. One parent made a donation of £1,000 and we raised £400 on the day.

“It helped to raise awareness of the centre because not a lot of people know what it’s about. It was also good for everyone to interact with the community and do things with them.”

He added: “We got a lot of people who didn’t know the centre and they all said they hoped we will hold another fun day.

“It’s the first time we’ve tried it down here, and the money raised will help take the members on outings and all sorts of things.”
