THE GOVERNMENT is giving Redbridge Council £574,000 next year to help disabled residents adapt their homes.
Its contribution for 2004/05 is part of the Disabled Facilities Grant, which gives disabled people the opportunity to continue living in their own homes by making adaptations.
These could include paying for stairlifts, access ramps and door widening to accommodate wheelchairs or building level-access showers for families with disabled children, disabled adults or those with debilitating illness.
