JEAN Lambert, Green MEP for Waltham Forest, has singled out the Morecambe Bay tragedy in which 19 Chinese cockle pickers died as "another powerful reason for relaxing immigration laws".
She said: "Human trafficking can only flourish like this because so few legal channels for migration are open, and because migrant workers so often have no knowledge of them anyway.
"The criminal gangs that traffic in human misery would be wiped out if only the Government would take a more sensible attitude to migration."
