CHARLIE Brown's roundabout could be getting an overhaul under proposals being examined by Transport for London (TfL).

Traffic lights may be introduced and a clean-up of the area could take place within weeks of TfL finishing its report next month.

TfL area engineer John Howard told a meeting of Redbridge Council's area one committee last week that a firm of specialist consultants was drawing up design options for landscaping the South Woodford roundabout at the junction of the A406, Chigwell Road and Southend Road.

Residents and councillors welcomed the news but wanted to ensure that suitable plants are chosen.

Councillor Ian Bond said: "I was elected ten or so years ago when some trees were planted on Charlie Brown's roundabout and they are still the same size as they were then."

Mr Howard said: "We are examining this and if we can get the trees to grow the way the weeds grow we'll be doing all right."
