CONMEN are rarely celebrated by society.

The term is usually used to describe tricksters and crooks who thieve their way to thousands of pounds by preying on the vulnerable in society.

Generally, upstanding members of the community look down on them, and a good piece of sound advice is (sound advice?...ah-ha! I finally get it. Hahaha! Excellent.) that people should avoid them.

But down the Standard in Walthamstow this Friday (October 30) a wholly different type of conners are playing – none other than tribute act Con Jovi.

This rocking foursome are so good they'll 'con' (haw haw) your eyes into thinking its the real deal. And while it costs £7 to get in, you won't leave thinking you've been taking advantage of.

So get on down there! Providing you like Bon Jovi of course...Otherwise it's probably best to stay far away. Like the Tryst next door.

On Saturday (October 31) it's Halloween, so if you want to avoid all those pesky kids begging for gum and teenagers flour-bombing your house, you could do worse than see The Modfathers at the Standard. Entry is £10.

Alternatively on that most spooky of nights, The Sheepwalk in Leytonstone hosts another storming What's Cookin' night on Saturday.

Headliners are Neil Young-style southern-country-soul group Jawbone.

Support comes from country rockers The Monster Trucks and garage blues group Cowbell.

Things get dinging around 9pm ish.

While on Wednesday (November 4) the Sheepwalk hosts a selection of country, rock, blues and a hint of scar from The Vaga Band, Henry Brothers and Tom Rodwell.

On Monday (November 2) Waltham Abbey Folk Club presents a night with lyrical master Graham Robins.

Entry is £5 and things get going around 8.30pm.

Walthamstow Folk Club, held at the Plough Inn on Sunday (November 1) hosts singer-songwriter Pete Morton. Entry is £6, or £5 for concessions. It all kicks off at 7.30pm.
