A BROWNIE group from Chigwell are set to make history by appearing on a set of Royal Mail stamps marking the centenary of the girl guide movement.

Two of the youngsters Tiwa Otesanya-Salvo and Emily Willis will appear in the set, released in February 2010, after being chosen from thousands of girls across the country.

But the other girls have not missed out on their shot at fame – the whole group also stars on almost every page of this year's special centenary edition of the Brownie Annual, which has just gone on sale in bookshops across the nation.

Girlguiding UK recommended the girls for the high-profile roles after they became well-know through regular appearances in the movement's magazine.

Brown Owl Katie Russell said: “The girls loved it and they're all so excited. They've been going into shops and telling the cashiers that it's them in the book.

“They're famous now but they haven't let it get to their heads – except when they keep asking me if I want their autographs,” she joked.

The annual features photographs of 36 of the girls cooking, camping, playing games and even carrying out science experiments.

Ms Russell added: “Because it's the centenary annual it's something that's a bit special. I'm really proud of all of them."

Tiwa, who goes to Chigwell Primary School, said: “The Royal Mail photoshoot was great fun especially as we got to play in the snow and got to have a hot chocolate to warm up.

“I can't wait to send out letters with the Brownie stamp with me on."

Danielle Carter, 8, said: "It was like being part of history in the making and really exciting to see myself in a published book."

The group are on the look-out for more volunteers to help with their work. For more information call 0774 3580 506.
