CONTROVERSIAL South Woodford nightspot Funky Mojoes will be open as usual tonight and over the weekend after a flurry of last minute legal activity.

Lawyers for Redbridge Council told a licensing hearing on Tuesday that the bar was not entitled to appeal against a ruling that it should stop serving alcohol at midnight.

Magistrates at the hearing accepted the council’s argument, but lawyers for the High Road bar appealed against that decision to the High Court.

At the High Court this afternoon the bar was given leave for a judicial review and told it could keep serving until 2am at the weekend in the meantime.

The review is not expected to take place before the end of the year.

The bar’s solicitor David Dadds said: “My client is satisfied with the judgement today in the High Court.”
