THE borough has largely avoided the heavy snowfall that has caused traffic problems elsewhere – but children still found enough to play with.

Snow fell for a couple of hours last night and briefly this morning.

But now Waltham Forest's roads are clear and transport services almost totally unaffected.

The situation was very different in some counties, including north Essex, which saw a large number of snow-related traffic accidents.

Children nevertheless found enough of the white stuff to have snowball fights in Hollow Ponds, Leytonstone.

The Met Office expects it to get even colder over the weekend with temperatures dropping to two below zero on Saturday night, when more snow is expected to fall in east London.
