A PERFORMANCE poetry night was packed to the rafters at the weekend and fans are being urged to attend the next of the weekly showcases on January 30.

The free Word4Word Slam enjoyed a successful first night at its new home at the Theatre Royal bar, Theatre Square, Stratford, on Sunday. Patrons enjoyed the lyrical battles between poets (pictured above).

With the accent as much on performance as on the poetry, Word4Word Slam is an event that combines poetry, excitement, healthy competition and audience participation.

Six poets compete against each other over a nail-biting three rounds.

After January, the event will then be held every fourth Sunday of the month between 5pm and 8pm. Poet positions need to be booked in advance by contacting host Kat Francois on 07961 313 557 or on Zupakat1@hotmail.com.
