TWO traditional road signs have been refurbished by Loughton Town Council in a clean-up project designed to improve the impression of the town centre.
The finger post signs, at the High Road junctions with Forest Drive and Traps Hill, have undergone a £3,870 facelift after falling into disrepair.
A town council spokesman said: "These traditional directions signs are recognised as having an important role to play in maintaining the character of rural areas and the council felt the neglected condition of the ones in the High Road have a bad impression of the town centre."
The work, approved by the town council's environment, heritage and leisure committee, included researching and replacing missing letters and casting replacement fingers to look identical to the originals.
