CUSHION-WAVING campaigners are to hold a demonstration at Waltham Forest Town Hall in protest at a £45,000 refurbishment of council offices.
The Waltham Forest Anti-Cuts Union is urging residents to take to the town hall steps before tomorrow's cabinet meeting with comfy props following the Guardian's revelation about the works.
The council says the refurbishment will save it money in the long term because it will allow space for an extra 150 staff to work in the building, although critics have expressed scepticism at the claims.
The Anti-Cuts Union, a coalition of union members and left-wing activists, has accused the council of wasting money and is calling on councillors to do more to oppose Government cuts.
The council says it needs to save at least £37.2million over the next two and a half years because of a squeeze on public spending.
The protest will begin at 6.30pm on Tuesday (September 14) at the town hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow.
