TUBE travellers have reacted angrily to price increases at London Underground car parks.

From Saturday Tube travellers will have to fork out almost £2 more per day to park at Tube stations during the week.

The Guardian spoke with travellers yesterday and got their feelings about the price rise.

Antony Howland, of Halstead in Essex, said he occasionally parks at Snaresbrook station when going into central London.

He said: "£2.70 is reasonable but £4.50 will definitely be the other side of unreasonable.

"In the current climate £3.50 would have been the most people would find acceptable to suffer, but that's an extortionate jump."

Daljeet Sher, of West Grove, Woodford Green, said there should be no charge at all.

The 62-year-old said: "The car park should be free but if there has to be a charge the price should stay the same, given the pressures people are under, or it should only increase slightly, in line with inflation."

Robert Letter, 33, from Hainault, travels from Snaresbrook to St Paul's.

He said: "The car park will be half empty.

"I have been parking here for about five years and fortunately have gone from having to park every day to just two days a week.

"It's a shocking increase and it will hit residents as people will find alternative places to park nearby."

Mark Solomons, of Loughton, occasionally travels from Snaresbrook to Holborn.

The 47-year-old said: "It's an awful jump and it won't help promote people using public transport.

"I sympathise with residents although I live in a road near Loughton station and people park there and walk to get the Tube."

Bik Mannan, of South Woodford, regularly travels from Snaresbrook to London Liverpool Street.

The 41-year-old said: "It's an extortionate increase and it doesn't feel right.

"I live a bit too far to walk but I will have to think about doing things a bit differently from now on."

Stephanie Bowden, 49, travels from Romford to get the Tube from Snaresbrook to Monument.

She said: "I park here regularly but I won't pay £4.50, this is my last week and I'll think of something else."
