AN URGENT investment in Waltham Forest’s obsolete CCTV system has been approved.
Cabinet agreed to dip into the authority’s contingency fund to invest £312,000 in order to make cameras, which are used by police as well as the council, fit for purpose.
Part of the money will be used to create a central control room at the town hall.
A cabinet report said the current equipment is “defunct” and “significantly past (its) recommended life expectancy”.
Speaking just before the vote at the meeting, Cllr Clyde Loakes, cabinet member for the environment, said: "Clearly we need this investment as technology and demand for CCTV is developing and changing all the time.
"I welcome this report and the way forward contained within it, and the bright future that our CCTV network will have once these recommendations are approved."
