WALTHAM Forest's new and historic buildings will be opening their doors for free this weekend.

They are taking part in the Open House London event where key buildings are opened up to the public at no cost.

There are free talks, walks and events over the weekend and it is an opportunity to see behind the scenes of some of the borough's most famous landmarks.

Visitors can also explore sites which are not normally open to the public including some private homes.

In Waltham Forest they include the Queen Victoria Hunting Lodge built for Henry VIII in Epping Forest, and the Waltham Forest City Learning Centre, in Billet Road, completed in 2001.

The Town Hall, considered one of the finest in London, will also be open for the weekend.

The attractions include: the London 2012 Olympic Park; Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge; Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge: Butler’s Retreat; Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge: The Coach House Development; St Mary with St Edward and St Luke, Leyton; St Mary’s Parish Church.

Also opening their doors are: the Pump House Steam and Transport Museum; the Vestry House Museum; Waltham Forest City Learning Centre; Walthamstow Library; Walthamstow Town Hall; William Morris Gallery; and Woodford Green United Free Church.
