A BROTHER and sister are organising a concert in memory of their father, who died days after their mother was given the all-clear from cancer.

Paul Delin, 44, of The Drive, collapsed and died following a game of tennis last year, two days after his wife Karen, 45, was told she had recovered from the rare cancer sarcoma.

Their children, Emma, 16, and Jonathan, 14, will hold a concert in his memory on October 17, to honour his love of music and raise money for charity.

Mrs Delin said: “Paul's death affected the family tremendously. It's cruel at any time, but it just added to how awful it was with young kids.

“It was cruel beyond belief that I got the all-clear from sarcoma two days before my husband died because we were on such a high and were very excited.

“The concert is a way to do something positive after such a terrible event. I think the kids felt that because he loved music, it would be nice to do some sort of concert.”

Jonathan will introduce acts at the concert, which will take place at King Solomon High School in Barkingside, where they are pupils.

He said: "I felt I really wanted to pay tribute to my dad and we decided we really wanted to do this concert because he really enjoyed his music. He played the guitar and listened to all types of music.

"Some of the groups are going to be singing ballads that my dad liked and we've based it around the music he enjoyed, so it's going to be quite emotional."

The proceeds will be split between the British Heart Foundation, which is researching the cause of sudden death in adults like Mr Delin, and the Sarcoma Trust.

Tickets, costing £10 for adults and £5 for children, are available from the concert's website, www.concertforpaul.org.uk.
