A GROUP of Chelsea Pensioners were the special guest competitors at the latest event in a bowling club's centenary celebrations.
Buckhurst Hill Bowls Club, in Epping New Road, has been staging a variety of one-off matches this year to mark its 100th anniversary and its latest opponents were the famous scarlet-clad pensioners.
The visiting team posed for pictures on the club's green before changing out of their red garb for the competition, eventually won by Buckhurst Hill.
Bowls club men's captain Roy Davies said: “The bowls match itself was played in a very friendly spirit, followed by a very pleasant drink and meal with the Pensioners in our clubhouse.
“The occasion will be remembered for years to come as a wonderful climax to our centenary year, and we appreciated very much the visit of the Chelsea Pensioners.”
