CRIME is down by 10 per cent in Walthamstow's High Street ward.
Police have seen a reduction from April 1 to September 1, this year compared to the same time in 2009.
The figures cover all types of crimes from assaults, shop lifting, robberies and burglaries.
Sergeant Phil Steedman, from the High Street Safer Neighbourhood Team, said there was on average 300 incidents a month last year, compared to 270 this year.
Sgt Steedman said: "We have a big problem with personal thefts - pick pocketing.
"We have been working with street businesses, banks and building societies to tackle this.
"We carried out crime prevention surveys to find out how to make the premises more user friendly."
But he said their main success has been down to having police officers stationed in fixed places that they know to be crime hot spots.
He said having a visible police presence has helped tackle crime.
He added that the team will continue using these tactics to reduce crime in the area.
