POLITICIANS will get a grilling from young people in a series of question and answer sessions at local schools.

Pupils from across Redbridge will take part in the debates which have been organised by the council as part of Local Democracy Week which runs from October 11 to October 20.

Local councillors will be joined by council officers and police for the debates where secondary school pupils will have the chance to pose questions on issues which affect them.

Topics up for debate have been chosen by the students and include the Olympics and tuition fees.

The Question Time style debates will take place in Oaks Park, Woodford County, Beal, Ilford Ursuline and Wanstead High Schools.

As part of the event, Redbridge Youth Council will also be hosting a ‘Speed Debate’ on October 17 at Redbridge Town Hall where each young person will be allocated a fixed amount of time to speak to a Councillor before moving on to the next student.
