AN OLD scroll has been returned to a synagogue after being restored.
Around 100 people attended a special ceremony at the Woodford Liberal Synagouge on Marlborough Road, South Woodford, to celebrate the event.
Work on the Torah scroll, which is believed to be around 200 years old, took two years to complete.
It was paid for by the Woodford congregation, with major donor Phil Gee paying for the majority of the work.
Scribe, Avielah Barclay, carried out the painstaking restoration and returned the scroll yesterday (October 16).
Rabbi Richard Jacobi placed the scroll on its lectern for a short afternoon service.
After the service, those gathered at the synagogue enjoyed a talk on the history of the scroll before celebrating its return with singing, dancing and a buffet supper donated by Mr Gee and his family.
