COLLECTIONS of garden waste could move to a fortnightly basis under plans to be considered by the council as part of budget savings scheduled for 2012-13.
Garden waste is currently collected on a weekly basis between April and October and contribute approximately 17% to the council’s recycling rate.
A move to fortnightly collections would save around £50,000 per year, but in a report on the proposal council officers say any move to change the collection schedule would be high risk.
Redbridge currently recycles 34% of its waste and officers say any change to collections would impact on the authority’s aim of hitting government targets of 50% by 2015 and lead to an increase in fly-tipping.
