COLLEAGUES of the 28-year-old cyclist killed by an Olympic bus on Wednesday have paid tribute to him.

Daniel Harris, of Waterloo Road, Barkingside, collided with the bus at 7.40pm on Wednesday at the junction of Ruckholt Road and the A12, close to the border of Waltham Forest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.14pm.

In an online statement Richard Moross, Founder and CEO of printing company MOO, said: "We were all incredibly shocked and saddened to learn this morning about the tragic loss of one of our colleagues, our Community Manager, Dan Harris.

"Dan looked after all things social media for MOO and was a popular, entertaining and much loved member of the MOO Crew.

"There are no words that can truly express how much we’ll all miss him, and his infectious enthusiasm, warmth and passion for life.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends at this sad time."

Mr Harris had started cycling to and from work to avoid using the Central line, tweeting on July 23: "Just completed a 6.80 mi bike - First commute home."

He tweeted the following day: "I've taking to loudly boo-ing cyclists who jump red lights. They give the rest of us a bad name and should be publicly shamed."

Mr Harris was also a former employee of Redbridge council.

In a statement released today, Roger Hampson, Chief Executive of Redbridge council, said: "Redbridge council was deeply saddened to hear of the death of former staff member Dan Harris, who worked on the council’s website for several years.

"He had many close friends in the council and will be much missed. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this difficult time."

A post-mortem is due to take place today.

The 65-year-old driver of the Olympic bus was arrested at the scene, but was released on bail, pending further enquries.
