YOUNG people living in Redbridge are being asked to give their views on how the council can save money spent on vital youth services.

The council needs to save £696,000 in 2013/14 from young people's services, such as careers advice from Connexions, the Youth Offending and Targeted Prevention Service and the Youth Service, which runs the borough's youth centres and schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Council leader Keith Prince and cllrs Ian Bond, Alan Weinburg and Robin Turbefield met with the Youth Council in July to explain some of the tough choices the council will face in making the cuts.

The Youth Council were told they would be asked what their priorities were for the coming year before any cuts were made and where they think savings could be made.

Consultations are taking place over the next four weeks with the Youth Council and young people who use youth services.

The consultation period ends on September 10 and anyone who wishes to give their opinion on how the savings should be made can do so through the service they use.
