THE Jamaican flag flew high above Waltham Forest Town Hall as part of an event to celebrate 50 years of the country's independence from Britain.

On the day Usain Bolt received a 100m Olympic gold medal, 150 guests gathered in Forest Road to enjoy Caribbean food, traditional stories and music.

Council leader Chris Robbins on Monday also paid tribute to the contribution made to the community by people of Jamaican origin.

"It was a wonderful evening to share and honour the achievements of Jamaicans, both past and present, who continue to make a huge impact within our diverse communities," he said.
