A man accused of ploughing a car into pedestrians outside a major Australian transport hub has been charged with murder following the death of a pensioner injured in the incident.
Saeed Noori, 32, was charged with 18 counts of attempted murder following last month’s incident outside Flinders Street station in Melbourne, which injured 19 people.
Detectives in Victoria upgraded one of the charges following the death of an 83-year-old from the Northcote area of the city on December 29.
The charge was filed at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Noori, a former Afghan refugee who is now an Australian citizen, also faces one charge of conduct endangering life.
The defendant, from the Heidelberg West area of Melbourne, has been remanded in custody to appear in court again on May 30.
Of those injured in the incident on December 21 nine were foreign nationals.
Three people remain in hospital.
