Two goals from super-sub Sergio Garcia confirmed FC Leytonstone’s passage into the quarter-finals of the Artec Cup after a convincing 5-2 win over LF Olympico.

Leytonstone started the match at a high tempo, chasing and hounding the ball all over the pitch and the home side took the lead when Fesar Rafiq dispossessed the Olympico full back before slipping the ball into the bottom corner.

Soon after Leytonstone doubled their lead with Asif Malek breaking quickly from an Olympico corner who passed to Kashif Shabbir who ran from the halfway line and applied a cool finish to make it 2-0.

Olympico pulled themselves back into the game, taking advantage of some lacklustre defending, to score two in quick succession and draw level before the break.

The second half however belonged to Leytonstone. Daniel Owusu slammed home to restore the hosts’ lead after good work by Levi Fletcher to hold the Olympico goalkeeper.

With the advantage regained Leytonstone introduced 17-year-old Garcia to the field and the youngster made an instant impact finishing off Owusu’s pass to make it 4-2.

The teenager then grabbed his second and Leytonstone’s fifth as he raced on to a long ball before applying a sumptuous chip over the keeper from outside the box.

Leytonstone’s attention turns back to the league on Sunday as they travel to Renaissance Seniors.
