Bancroft's School's Under-13s boys' hockey team made it through to the East of England finals after an impressive showing in the Essex Cup.
In reaching the competition's final stage they emulated the Under-18s boys’ achievements on a wonderful day of hockey for Bancroft’s School.
The Under-13 A team scored 47 goals and conceded none in six group matches including Alec Hunter (7-0), Maltings (9-0), Sir John Cass (10-0), Holmwood House (4-0), Cooper’s Coburn (5-0) and Drapers’ Academy (12-0).
The team's ruthless form in the group stages set up a semi-final against Chigwell which Bancroft’s won 1-0 to secure a place in the final against Felsted.
A much tighter affair, the score was 2-2 at full time and Felsted narrowly won 3-2 on penalties but Bancroft’s had already confirmed their place in the East of England finals which will take place on March 7.
Sydenham, Zayne Avril, Archie Woods, Omer Cayir, Josh Beardwell, Ben Margetson-Rushmore, Nathan Rose, Tom Murray, Tobias Abdul and Carl Nygaard-Parsons made up the successful squad.
The B team's Essex Cup exploits were less spectacular but three wins against Forest, Drapers’ Academy and Emersen Park were cause for celebration.
The boys narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot after going down 1-0 to Chigwell's A team.
The girls’ A team lost out in a three-way final to Felsted and Holmwood House in a tough group.
The performances of the Under-13 and Under-18 sides should inspire the Under-14s who are the next age group to compete in the competition.
