TOTTENHAM defender Younes Kaboul has admitted that he may be forced to leave Spurs for the sake of his career, writes Iain Liddle.

The French defender has struggled in London following his 7million move from Auxerre last summer and failed to impress manager Juande Ramos who joined the club shortly afterwards.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is a long-time admirer and tried to purchase the former France Under-21 captain when he was playing on the continent. It has been reported that a bid of only £2million may be enough to secure his services this summer as Ramos sets about re-building his squad.

"That is truth that they may be the club showing the biggest determination to secure my services. We will see," Kabouol told the Daily Mirror.

"I do not know yet, we will see during the transfer window," he added. "For the moment, some clubs contacted me, but there are no concrete offers yet.

The 22-year-old played in almost every game under Martin Jol but soon fell behind not only Michael Dawson but also Didier Zokora and Tom Huddlestone, not recognised defenders, in the centre back pecking order once the Dutchman lost his job.

His next focus is simply to start playing regular football again, wherever that may be.

"All I know is that I have three years remaining on my contract and that I have to play," he said.

"I am 22 and cannot stay on the bench and sometimes stay at home. I am a competitor before everything."
