Orient head coach Richie Wellens is hoping his team take advantage of a ‘massive opportunity’ to build on their victory last week as they prepare to face Barnsley at home in League One.

The O’s defeated Northampton Town 2-1 away to lift them out of the relegation zone and with key player’s returning from injury, Wellens is hoping the team will go on a good run.

This week the O’s played a friendly match to get certain players match fit, and Wellens now believes that his now injury free squad will give him many selection problems.

Wellens said: “It is a massive opportunity for us. It is a good opportunity for the players who are trying to keep hold of their shirt. But the one’s who have not been in the team have been working in training this week.”

“In the friendly game this week the players that did play were excellent. It is difficult to train 11 v 11 here because of the pitch. So, we don’t want to restrict in terms of size of area. It was important that we had the friendly. Everyone is in a good place.”

“It is a great thing for a manager to have many selections to choose from. People say he has too many egos, too many players. But they are good headaches. All season we wanted a foundation but due to injuries we have not had that.”

Leyton Orient have won two of their last three league games vs Barnsley (L1), as many victories as across their prior 10 meetings with the Tykes combined (D4 L4).

Orient have also lost each of their last two home league games and will be looking to avoid losing three in succession within the same season for the first time since February 2022 (five defeats).
