Orient head coach Richie Wellens said his side should have scored more goals as they recorded back-to-back wins with a 2-1 home victory over Stevenage in League One.
The O’s took the lead just before the break with a goal from Jack Simpson and doubled their lead late in the second half when Tyreeq Bakinson slotted home with nine minutes left. They conceded a few minutes later but hung on to claim a vital three points.
After the game Wellens expressed his delight with the victory but felt they should have won by a bigger margin.
Wellens said: “We could have scored a lot of goals. Disappointed to concede one in that manner against Peterborough but they are a good team. Good technical players and are able to suck you in. but I don’t remember giving too many chances away.”
He also praised the performance of team captain Jack Simpson.
He added: “Jack is a good player. Jacks career show’s he is a good player. So, we have been wanting more from him and I think at the moment he is producing. Box to box he was very good. He was calm and composed when we needed to find a pass. So, I was really pleased for him.”
Before the game Wellens explained the important role the substitutes will be playing during this part of the season and after the final whistle commended their performances today.
Wellens said: “The last two games I can’t think highly of the subs. They have come on and made a real impact. We should have increased our lead. It should have three or four with the chances we created.”
“Both goals for me were very good in different ways. We always wanted more goals from set pieces. When we get it right, we can show we can go on a good run. The last 15 minutes of the game the fans were very good, and they do a make a difference.”
Victory for Orient means they are now 19th in the league and four points out of the relegation zone. They next play Wimbledon away on Tuesday night.
