Leyton Orient assistant coach Paul Terry felt his side were ‘excellent’ in the first half as their unbeaten run came to end losing 2-1 at home to Huddersfield Town in League One.

Orient went ahead in the 20th minute from an own goal but conceded just before the break and then again in the second half in injury time.

The match also saw head coach Richie Wellens sent to the stand after protesting against a referring decision.

Despite the defeat. Terry felt proud of the team’s performance but felt that they should have been more cynical in the box.

Terry said:” I thought we were really good in the first half. We created a lot of chances. We were more cynical and more assured. For 40 minutes we looked confident in possession and really looked on the ball.

“But we should have been more clinical around the box. If were then we would have been two or three up. The goal just before half time was a bit of a killer really and changed the game. It was a goal from nowhere, but we have got to do better in these moments.”

Orient entered match with big injuries problems and Terry felt this may have played a part in the defeat. First choice goalkeeper Will Dennis had to pull out while a couple of other players were unwell.

He added: “I don’t want to moan about injuries, but we had eleven players today that couldn’t play. Two players pulled out this morning because they were ill and we had to get a youngster from the youth team to make the bench up. That would be a good experience for the youngster.

“They players are disappointed and shattered. They put their bodies on the line every week. They were excellent today for 45 minutes. In the second half could we have done better. Yes, we could have.”

Defeat for Orient means they stay in 15th place in the league with fives games to play. They are currently four points above the drop zone and travel to league champions Lincoln City on Saturday.
