WALTHAM Abbey have widened the gap between themselves and the foot of the Ryman Premier.

Now they will want to maintain that momentum when they take on Horsham this weekend.

Things are so tight between the clubs right now, so Abbey could propel themselves up the table if they can avoid defeat for the third league game on the trot.

They will be buoyed by a terrific display last weekend, at Canvey Island. There, Abbey came from two goals down to win 3-2 with strikes by Billy Holland, Ricky Edwards and Xaniel Doku.

Elsewhere at Capershotts, the draw has been made for round four of the Essex Senior Cup, with Abbey being handed a home tie against Bowers & Pitsea.

Abbotts captain Lee White and his team-mates will start the game as favourites because Pitsea are two steps further down the football pyramid, in the Essex Senior Premier division.

And Abbey will hope for an improved display against lower league opposition to the one which saw them dumped out of the Ryman League Cup by Enfield Town, recently.

Elsewhere, in Ryman Division One North, Waltham Forest face a tricky trip to Wingate & Finchley.

Boss Phil Miles has managed to hold the club steady in 11th place in the table, but will be keen to end a run of three games without a win.

He has drafted in defender Ryan Oliva to help plug gaps in the line-up caused by injuries.

There was nothing Forest could do last weekend though, as they lost 3-0 at their adopted Cricklefield Stadium home to table toppers East Thurrock United.

It was not ideal preparation for their re-scheduled Essex Senior Cup clash with AFC Hornchurch, last night.

The original match was abandoned when Gbenga Sonuga broke his leg.

Elsewhere in the division, Leyton are in derby action against Redbridge this weekend.

Boss Craig Edwards will want a strong display from the new players he is trying to mould into a team.
