Leyton Orient’s FA Trophy quarter final replay against Gateshead will go ahead tonight as planned.
Gateshead said yesterday that a precautionary pitch inspection could take place this morning due to heavy rain forecast overnight, but the National League side have confirmed that the playing surface has coped well with the conditions and any surface water will be cleared ahead of the game.
The winner of tonight’s replay will be just one round away from playing at Wembley and they will face either Bromley or Spennymoor Town in the semi-finals of the FA Trophy.
Orient will be hoping for better fortunes later on after they threw away a three goal lead at Brisbane Road just over a week ago to draw 3-3. Richard Peniket scored a dramatic late equaliser for Gateshead to secure a replay, despite goals from Josh Koroma, Ebou Adams and Josh Coulson putting the O’s 3-0 up by the hour mark.
Meanwhile, Dan Happe is expected to return for Leyton Orient tonight after missing Saturday’s game against Dover through illness, but the O’s will be without George Elokobi and Jobi McAnuff once again. Sam Ling, Nathan Mavila, Marvin Ekpiteta and Dan Holman are all cup tied.
