FAN and editor of O's fanzine Pandamonium Matthew Rooper is back this season to talk about all things Leyton Orient.

So, it's eight points from five games and that works out at 1.6 points per game, meaning we will currently finish on 73 points and over the past ten years in this division would seal a sixth place finish. So you could say we are one ninth of the way there - yep just another 41 games, a few more injuries, a load more luck and a few more goals to go to Wembley! All in all, we have come back well from the defeats at Ipswich and Peterborough which had some sceptics thinking we were cannon fodder in this division. I bet no-one at the Orient, least of all Martin Ling thought we could get three clean sheets in a row against better than average sides Carlisle, Brighton and Walsall. Carlisle have been scoring against everyone this year and failed to get much of a chance against us, Brighton have two quality strikers up front who are still very capable at this level and we kept them very quiet for 90 minutes. The week before yesterday, Walsall rammed in five goals against Southend and again we kept them blank as Terry (yes that's right, TERRY!)  and Boyd got us three points at a ground that wont be the easiest place to go this year and get a victory.

What is quite funny, is the more depleted our squad becomes from injuries the better we have started performing. Perhaps it's the old siege mentality and backs to the wall scenario, but it surely has to give us all hope for when Ling and Smith have a fully fit 22 to choose from. Currently ninth, it's a position that not many thought we'd be in, especially having to face Brighton, Peterborough and Walsall away and having a top tip for promotion (Carlisle) at home. It seems like Ling is hopefully working out different methods to play and combat opposition tactics, although I still think our best chance comes from getting the ball down and playing at pace. At this level, well in fact at any level though, you have to have a plan B, C and D if necessary and lets face it, had we had that last season we'd have probably featured in the end of season lottery that is the play-offs! So, it's Stockport at home and hopefully that's three points and when you glimpse at the fixtures for next Saturday (six of the eight above us are playing each other) then come this time next week my blog might be talking about a team looking after a play-off place and after just six games and a possible 18 points, fifth, or sixth or even seventh or eighth is food for thought - and gives all supporters I hope - the chance to dream a little and bearing in mind the squad, the finances and the make up of the season so far, perfectly acceptable. Until next time, up the O's!
