To be quite honest, before last Saturday’s marvellous, last-gasp comeback, the mood amongst the 180 travelling O’s must have been one of resignation and the prospect of getting cut further adrift at the foot of the table.

With nine players out – including favourites Charlie Daniels and Jimmy Smith – there seemed no way back and I was beginning to think the cup defeat at Blackburn had taken its toll on our bare-boned squad.

But, where there’s life, there’s hope and with our new sensation on the wing – Mr George Porter - running their left back and winger ragged, I always thought there might be an inkling of something in the game for us. One foul too many lead to their winger’s booking and immediate substitution and – the late sending-off aside – that might have proved to be the turning point in the game.

Kevin Lisbie is always going to get you goals and hopefully Saturday’s glimmer-of-hope-header is the first of many in Orient colours. But, cue one of the old guard in Ben Chorley – who is never afraid to have to shoot - and his stunning drive sent the travelling O’s wild.

On the downside, it’s only three points from a possible thirty and with Preston up next on Saturday, they don’t get any easier. But, I am sure you won’t hear of any relegation talk in the Orient camp despite the gap widening to five points between us and the 20th placed side.

Last Saturday’s draw could yet prove to be the turning point for our season – coupled with skipper Stephen Dawson’s return to the midfield engine room and that might ultimately be the catalyst in our survival battle. How important could that point be come the end of the season?

Keep the faith.

Up the O’s.
