Preston North End are the visitors to E10 on Saturday as the O’s go in search of their first points at Brisbane Road this season.

Russell Slade’s side have lost all five of their league games at home this season but will approach tomorrow’s match with renewed confidence following the weekend’s draw at Huddersfield.

The visitors are managed by Phil Brown, who tasted life in the Premier League with Hull City after leading the Tigers to promotion in 2008.

Brown now finds himself in the Deepdale hotseat though and has led the Lilywhites to an impressive start to the campaign.

North End currently sit second in the table, with a game in hand over leaders Charlton, and have won their last seven consecutive league games following Tuesday night’s thrilling 4-3 success at Wycombe.

Saturday will be the first time the O’s have met one of the sides relegated from the Championship, although there will be no let off for Slade’s men as next up is a trip to Scunthorpe before they host Sheffield United two weeks later.

Slade suggested last week that games against the bigger sides in League One could be “just the tonic” as they bid to turn around their season but was quick to highlight there are no easy games in the division.

He said: “When you have got the amount of bodies out that we have recently it is tough and we have got tough opposition again on Saturday but I would like to think we are starting to make inroads and we are starting to pick up.”

Saturday will see the two sides meet for the first time in 15 years after Preston spent much of their recent history in the Championship, with the last clash between the two coming in Division Three in the 1995/96 season.

That campaign saw the O’s ship six goals without reply to their Lancashire opponents, losing 4-0 at Deepdale before a 2-0 defeat at home.

Coming so long ago however, these results mean nothing in the context of Saturday as the O’s approach the clash with renewed confidence following the encouraging displays at both Blackburn and Huddersfield.

Striker Kevin Lisbie summed up that confidence: “Every game is going to be hard this season. No team deserves to win. I have been in this league before – every game is a hard game.

“Preston are a good side, I think they are doing well right now but we feel we are at home and that at home we should pick up three points.”
