AFTER nearly a year out of the ring with a broken ankle Ongar Amateur Boxing Club (ABC's) Oscar Webb got back to business with a power-packed performance against this year's Eastern Counties NABC champion Daryl Harley from Canvey Island at Clacton Town Hall.

Webb showed no signs of ring rust as he rocked Harley with heavy two fisted attacks scoring at will throughout the opening session.

In the second round the Ongar fighter connected with a sweeping left hook which left Harley on the canvas, and needing an eight count before returning to his feet.

The final session saw Webb finding the target with a whole range of well-timed combinations which had the Canvey youth hanging on and leaving the Ongar teenager as a wide points winner.

Harry Long's unbeaten run came to a halt as he went down 12-10 on the computer scoring to Lowestoft's John Forceka in the Eastern Counties final.

Chris Smith showed class and composure as he once again beat London Champion U40kg Mitchell Smith.

Ongar's Smith, now emerging as a fighter to watch on the national stage, now has a good chance of lifting the national title if he remains focused.

And a busy week continued for Ongar on Saturday with four more boxers in action in Barnsley, Yorkshire for the Golden Belt national quarter finals.

Theo Styliandies and Billy Lonsdale both went through to the national semi-finals, while Jordan the Patterdale' Luxford and Arron Newton- Murphy just missed out on points.

Styliandies looked the most impressive on the night winning 18-4 after his opponent Z Khan from Yorkshire visited the canvass twice in the contest in each of the opening rounds.

The powerful Ongar youth is now the favourite to lift the national title, and will travel to Knottingley in Yorkshire on Saturday, in the semi-finals where he faces N Devlin from Fisher.

Elsewhere Sam Bezzina emphasised his prospect status with a wide points win against T Ward from St George's ABC on Saturday where another three Ongar boxers were appearing at the Dagenham ABC show.

This year's national Golden Belt semi-finalist Billy Lonsdale, and Kenny Rolling' Stone, who took a deserved points win against South Oxeys P Hayes, gave Ongar three wins out of three.

Coach Mark Wilks said: "It has been a busy but very successful time for us, which is very pleasing.

"We would also like to thank Ongar Town Council for the use of their minibus for our consistent touring of the country."
