REDBRIDGE players have been told to shape up or ship out after their third defeat in three games.

Manager Allan Fenn called an emergency meeting with the team on Tuesday night, with the Motormen just six points from safety, having played more games than several sides below them.

He said: "They were told in no uncertain terms that the situation we find ourselves in is unacceptable.

"We have fantastic players. There is not another team in this league that can match us on paper, but they are not performing and unless they shape up they're going to be out of the door."

Matthew Hayes has been released and Fenn has cut money from the playing budget to "bring home the seriousness of the situation".

He said: "If they can achieve a top six place their money will come back.

"Our aim is promotion and three, four or five good weeks will see us back in it.

"Every game is crucial. If we can't win, we have to get a draw.

"We're not going to accept another inept performance. It is time for the players to stand up and be counted. They know what they have to do, now we draw a line under it and move forward."

Redbridge, who were in the Nationwide Conference South just two years ago, went down to a late goal at the Oakside on Saturday.

Potters Bar almost struck after just four minutes when Earl Sterling missed a header to allow Richard Howard in, but he sent his lob over the bar from eight-yards.

Two minutes later Mitch Hahn played in Ian Luck on the right but Town keeper Michael Hayward blocked.

Redbridge captain Chris Perkins shovelled Gabriel Fanibuyan's lob off the line and at the other end Hahn was denied by a superb Hayward save.

The visitors started the second half brightly and took the lead when midfielder Michael Black headed into the bottom corner from six yards, after Daniel Talbot's corner was helped on by substitute Michael Toner.

Hosts' substitute Chris Sloan headed over from close-range in stoppage time to consign Redbridge to defeat.

They travel to eighth-placed Bury Town on Saturday.
