Second XI Premier Division

Wanstead and Snaresbrook Seconds missed out on the title but still secured second place with a five-wicket defeat at home to Brentwood Seconds.

League-leaders Chelmsford are 29 points ahead of Wanstead, who in turn are 28 points ahead of Upminster in third.

Two early wickets left Wanstead struggling on 17 for two but Feroze Khushi (50) looked to have got the hosts back on track.

Nikunj Velani (26) also chipped in, with Jahanser Akbar contributing 31 in a total of 182 all out; Harri Jones claiming five for 36.

Ben Sach (53) and Matthew Bell (67) put on quick-fire scores to set Brentwood on their way to victory, the visitors reaching 184 for five in 35 overs.

Chingford Seconds clung onto their final wicket to secure a draw at home to Chelmsford Seconds.

Inserted into bat, Chelmsford made the most of their chance to set the tone, with Jack Moss (76) and Robert Hayto (67 not out) scoring well.

The hosts struggled to unsettle their visitors, who made 231 for five before opting to declare.

Despite declaring in order to provide themselves with the best opportunity to bowl out the home side, Chelmsford could not dismiss a stubborn Chingford side.

James Hill hit 54 to top score, as the hosts held on with 156 for nine; Mark Drain returning five for 40.

Buckhurst Hill Seconds look destined for the drop after a 22-run loss at home to South Woodford Seconds.

Having removed visitors South Woodford for 126, Hill could only muster 104 in reply and as a result, look set to drop out the division.

Second XI Division One

A four-wicket victory at Harlow Seconds means ten-man Fives and Heronians Seconds now they are as good as safe from relegation.

As long as Fives better Wickford’s result next Saturday, they will retain their place in the division thanks to a 20-point buffer built up at Harlow.

Fives won the toss and put Harlow into bat, with the hosts unable to score runs with quickly enough to threaten, closing on a total of 192 for six; Tom Ryder (58) their top scorer.

Bradley Knapman was Fives’ most effective bowler, taking three wickets for 29 runs.

Neil Brathwaite then got the Fives’ reply off to the ideal start, hitting 84 to steer his side toward a winning total of 193 for six.

Woodford Wells Seconds and Loughton Seconds will battle it out for the title on the final day after Wells won by 35 runs as the two sides met on Saturday.

After making 153 all out, Wells were efficient with the ball, removing their hosts for 118 to win.

Second XI Division Two

A draw between West Essex Seconds and Hutton Seconds means the latter will go into the final day of the season needing a win to secure the title.

Two half centuries helped push West Essex’s score up to a credible total of 188 all out, with Kabir Khan (56) and Murad Ali (51) putting on important scores.

Matthew MacDonald-Ligit was the most effective Hutton bowler, taking four for 43.

Visiting Hutton then took charge of proceedings, with Liam Taylor (37) and Rys Howell (32) to the fore.

Ali took four wickets and Usman Aslam took three but both came at a cost, with the away side triumphing thanks to a total of 184 for eight.

Second XI Division Three

Struggling Epping Seconds know they must better the result of their direct relegation rivals Old Brentwoods next weekend if they are to avoid relegation, following an eight-wicket loss against Harlow Town Seconds.

Epping sit in the relegation zone and two points from safety heading into the final weekend of the season after a dismal batting display.

Harlow’s Simon Rowell took three for four, whilst Conor Fussell chipped in with four for 29 to dismiss Epping for just 62.

Raj Patel (24) and Manish Patel (21) were the only batsmen to make double figures as Epping crumbled.

Despite taking the wicket of opener Daniel Baldwin for a duck, the hosts were unable to truly threaten with the ball and once Ben Eversden had hit 65, the visitors always looked comfortable, reaching 65 for two.

Anil Raynold finished with two for 18.

Oakfield Parkonians Seconds condemned Basildon and Pitsea Seconds to the drop with a three-wicket home win.

A superb spell of bowling from Rajesh Jumde (three for nine) helped restrict Basildon to just 116 all out, with only Ian Anderson (26) displaying any staying power.

Kabir Matwala helped himself to three for 30 to put Parks in control.

The home side faltered in reply but did the necessary, claiming the points by reaching 122 with three wickets intact.

Dhruv Patel hit 28 and Sahil Handa made 24 as Parks squeezed home in spite of Harrison Birch’s three for ten.

A three-wicket win at Old Brentwoods Seconds means Woodford Green Seconds have put to bed any lingering fears of relegation.

The home side won the toss and decided to make first use of the track but could only put up 112 for nine in 35 overs.

Wood’s reply was less-than-convincing but the visitors got home with a total of 114 for seven.
